Sticky Shorts

Sticky Shorts are a five-piece international indie rock and post-punk band working across South Korea, Germany and Greece.

The band began through a highly improbable chain of events. During a period of intense isolation, vocalist Nam Won-sik befriended Johnny Kim, who happened to be delivering his food. After one particularly chaotic night involving a failed handstand and an unfortunate pair of shorts, they ended up at a crowded party at Johnny’s apartment.

While Won-sik was singing in the shower, guitarist Alexander R. Walter overheard him and announced that he was looking for a vocalist. Johnny had previously played with Alexander, Lee Seo-jun and Lee Jin-ho, and instead of attending a formal audition, Won-sik and Johnny recorded a demo together. The following day, Alexander called with a simple answer: “We’re in.”

With members based in different countries, the band developed through rehearsals, recordings and creative exchanges across Germany, Seoul and Greece. Their debut record was recorded in Lefkada.

Sticky Shorts combine rough-edged vocals, driving bass, guitars, drums and dark synthesizers with songs about gay life, male desire, masculinity, memory, shame, family, isolation and survival.

Their name came from the embarrassing incident that helped bring them together. It began as a joke, survived every attempt to replace it and ultimately became impossible to imagine them without it.
